Cosmetic Directive

2 May

For many years animals have been mistreated and experimented on cruelly  and unjustly. For what reason you may ask ? Perhaps break through pharmaceuticals or even medical testing but no hundreds of thousands of animals have been forced to suffer at the hands of the cosmetic giants. Members of the public have been protesting against this for many years and progress is finally  beginning to take shape. The Cosmetic Directive legislation will be taking affect this year. It goes without saying that without the pressure to get these laws in place we wont be where we are today. Public marches, writhing to MP’s and the prime minister, as well as the use of social media has had a real effect. This Legislation will make europe the first area in the world where animal testing is banned! More is still needed however as testing can still be legally performed on animals using the ingredients that go into cosmetics rather than the actual cosmetic product its  self.

Also please feel free to show your support by signing this petition to help save animals from chemical poisoning! you can sign the petition online also at this moment in time Lush are allowing customers to sign the petition in there stores

End Violence Against Women (RING THE BELL)

26 Apr

In 2008 break through india launched bell bajao!(ring the bell), a national level campaign in India asking communities to join to end violence against women. Truly amazing is how the campaign has involved men and young boys to end the violence against and transform attitudes about women. Not a common approach or an easy feat.

Bell Bajao has become a peer leader in raising this issue on the Internet through the use of multimedia, hosting survivor stories on a blog, celebrity endorsements, map for social change, social media engagement, training toolkits, information and community stories of change.

More related campaign videos can be found on Break through YouTube page.

False Information

25 Apr

shutup

The creation of social media has made it possible for people to communicate with the world quickly and freely however is this always a good thing? Publishing opinions disguised as facts and forgetting to truth check information is commonplace for most users of social media. Publishing right wing opinions you personally believe to be true can cause confusion online. For example information posted on Wikipedia or tweeted on Twitter can be deemed as fact by some even if its complete nonsense. This misuse of information can have negative implications in the real world.

Real word Example

  • At the time of the Boston bombings Twitter was flooded with tweets about what happened. The FBI spent time researching this information, this time could have been used much more efficiently at such an important time.
  • Accounts on social media sites are sometimes created pretending to be someone else. this can cause allot of confusion. sometimes these accounts are created for the sole purpose of insulting the person the account is pretending to be.

a good post about twitter and its usage I would recommend —> [x]

anti fur

18 Apr
YOU MAY NOT KNOW THIS!
China produces  85% of the  fur on the planet  and has  no animal welfare  laws to protect animals.   Fur  animals in  China suffer one  of the most   cruel and  savage practices  ever  heard  against defenseless beings. The hideous cruelty is hidden from consumers who may not know that each  fur  article  comes  with an  unimaginable amount  of  agony.  All this in the name of fashion.

Activism goes #global

18 Apr

Social Activism has many platforms in which is has now become globally acceptable. Social Media is now becoming the primary key as a way of how people connect with each other and campaign. Validating social media has made it clearer for people to understand the message and can also give their own opinions. Eventually when millions of people around the world become part of it, it is then took notice of and the government become aware of what is going on. Being social and an activist keeps the world up to date with these campaigns using many platforms such as Twitter and Facebook for example. Activism is now global and increasing to become an easier way to connect and campaign.

Kony

18 Apr

The KONY 2012 campaign started as an experiment. Could an online video make an obscure war criminal famous? And if he was famous, would the world work together to stop him? Or would it let him remain at large?

The experiment yielded the fastest growing viral video of all time. 3.7 million people pledged their support for efforts to arrest Joseph Kony.

Thousands rallied in Washington, DC and the KONY 2012 Global Summit on the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) brought together seven leaders from international institutions and the affected region to talk about what they are doing to stop Joseph Kony and his rebel army.

The KONY 2012 experiment sparked more international activity focused on stopping the LRA than ever before. But Kony is still out there.
